community guidelines
QUEERIFY sessions and activities are designed to hold space for individuals to share history, perspectives, and stories that promote learning and discussion about the diverse experiences within the LGBTQIA+ community.
Presenters and participants are expected to communicate in a way that promotes learning. All presenters and participants in QUEERIFY activities agree to act in accordance with the following guidelines:
-
Listen to learn about the experiences and perspectives of others.
-
Speak to share information and broaden understanding as opposed to debate.
-
Converse, not argue. Expecting people to change their perspectives if you push hard enough is not a mature or helpful way to promote learning or understanding. Come for conversation, not subjugation.
-
What is said here stays here, what is learned here leaves here.
-
NO secret recording
-
NO swearing, cussing, or other inappropriate language.
-
NO aggressive behavior, including targeting an individual or group of people or making threats.
-
Queerify sessions are not a space to express anti-LGBTQIA+ sentiments. Research has shown that anti-LGBTQIA+ sentiment can have mental health impacts on members of LGBTQIA+ community (Poulopoulos, 2022, Torchinsky, 2022). We take our kuleana seriously in not allowing anti-LGBTQIA+ sentiment into these spaces, as they have proven harmful for the community
In order to ensure appropriate learning spaces, QUEERIFY reserves the right to remove individuals who do not act in accordance with these guidelines.
